Every school loves a makeover and Hickory Bend is no exception! Gopher Sports, a sports equipment company, sponsored an Extreme Equipment Room Makeover Promotion. Participants were asked to explain how they would use $25,000 worth of equipment from Gopher to "makeover" their equipment room and improve the health of their students. Sixteen finalist schools had a chance to win a total of $60,000 in honor of Gopher Sports' 60th Anniversary.
Hickory Bend students and Mrs. Burras knew they were up to the challenge. Mrs. Burras wrote an essay titled "Love Life...Love Physical Education...Be Physically Fit" and explained her drive for all students to lead healthy lifestyles. Mr. Blackman, Brookwood Director of Technology, assisted with the project by compiling a two minute video featuring many HB students. The fabulous video, which can be seen below, showcased the students' love for physical education and the need for new equipment.
We did it! Hickory Bend was awarded with a $1,000.00 Runner-Up prize from Gopher Sports. Mrs. Burras is looking forward to the new equipment that will be able to be purchased with the prize money! Congratulations to everyone involved!
