Hickory Bend's annual Open House was held on September 23, 2008. Families were invited to Hickory Bend to participate in several activities. The evening started off in the gym with a performance by the HB Sensational Singers and a wonderful presentation from the HBPBIS team explaining the three "Be"s.
Hickory Bend students are being asked to concentrate on "BE"ing respectful, "BE"ing responsible and "BE"ing safe at all times. Our HB students, known as All Stars, are then rewarded for positive behavior with All Star "bucks". These "bucks" can be used to purchase items, enter in raffles and allow access to various activities. Parents were then asked to visit their child's classroom for a presentation by the teacher as well as visit the Scholastic Book Fair.
Classroom Teachers worked hard developing a resource folder that was given to each parent. Folders included classroom information and tips on helping students succeed. The staff at HB realizes the importance of good home-school communication, and enjoyed having the opportunity to meet their students' families. We at HB also know that families that read together succeed together! The Scholastic Book Fair was a great opportunity for families to increase the number of books in their home.
Eighty-five percent of HB families were represented at this year's Open House. Our participation increased by 14% from last year. The HB staff was pleased to see each family in attendance. Two classrooms even had 100% participation! Thank you to Mrs. Bragg, the HB staff and all of the HB families for making this year's Open House a success.
