BJHS iSafe Mentors Share Their Knowledge with HB Students
Several students from BJHS became iSafe mentors at the beginning of the 2008-2009 school year. To become a certified mentor, students were required to go through specific training modules to prepare them for their role as mentor. Three students came to HB on January 29 and February 3 and gave presentations to students. Students were grouped by grade level and participated in an exciting presentation created just for them.
iSafe is an Internet safety curriculum for students that helps to
give them tools and information that is vital to being safe online.
Hickory Bend students learned about several aspects of Internet
safety as well as cyberbullying. The iSafe curriculum was
supplemented with a story from the iKeep Safe program. Faux Paws
Meets the First Lady , a story about the dangers of cyberbullying,
was presented to all students by our district librarian and
students participated in safety lessons during their time in the
computer lab. Students learned to KEEP SAFE their personal
information, KEEP AWAY from Internet strangers and KEEP TELLING
their parents about everything they see online.
Our hope is that parents will become involved with this very important topic by discussing what their children have learned in school and by taking an active role in continually monitoring what their children are doing online.
