Peer Mediation Training at BJHS
PEER MEDIATION TRAINING AT BJHS
--by Bethany Lindsay, Principal
On Monday, October 19, 2009 BJHS Peer Mediation Training was conducted.
In mediation training, students learn communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills and how to apply those skills in the six-step mediation process. The six-step mediation process includes:
1. AGREE TO MEDIATE (explain ground rules)
2. GATHER POINTS OF VIEW
3. IDENTIFY INTERESTS
4. CREATE WIN-WIN OPTIONS
5. EVALUATE OPTIONS
6. WRITE AGREEMENT AND CLOSE
Our peer mediators will help their peers resolve conflicts peacefully by guiding them through the six-step process. The all-day training provided our mediators the opportunity to acquire the mediation skills and perform the skills in a practice setting.
