First Place in the ESL Student Writing Contest

Congratulations to Sarrah Mireles from Brookwood Jr. High School who won first place in this year's ESL Student Writing Contest for Grades 6-8. She will be awarded $150 and a certificate of merit on Friday, February 26, 2010 at the Illinois TESOL/BE State Convention held at the Holiday Inn Select in Naperville, IL. Sarrah, her family and Ms. Cruz will attend this event where Sarrah will read her essay aloud and make a statement about how she chose her topic. Sarrah's essay was about how her family celebrates Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) and about their family traditions surrounding this holiday. We are very proud of Sarrah and thank Ms. Cruz for entering her work into this contest.
