Dear Parents/Guardians:
“There are two great things that you can give your children: one is roots, the other is wings.”
–Hodding Carter
Tips for Helping Your Child Succeed in School:
- Make education a priority
- Share high expectations with your child
- Be involved
- Help and encourage your child to set academic goals
- Help your child be better organized
- Provide your child with the necessary school supplies and a study/homework area at home
- Maintain a positive attitude
All parents are encouraged to contact the school administrators or teachers at the onset of a concern. Conferences can be scheduled on any school day. Parents may also request a meeting with all of their child’s teachers and administrators. This can be done by contacting the school at (708) 758-5252. We need parent involvement and value parental support. The partnerships we create and maintain greatly influence your child’s success in school.
Sincerely,
Bethany A. Lindsay, Principal
Brookwood Junior High School
REMINDER!
This week we are collecting the fees and permission slips for the 8th Grade Trip to Springfield, Illinois, the 8th Grade Graduation and the 7th Grade End of Year field trip.
Our 8th grade students will be travelling to Springfield, IL on April 16, 2015. The day is planned as a learning experience for the students and correlates with the social studies curriculum. Although the time of the trip extends beyond the regular school hours, the students will be chaperoned at all times by adults. Students will be leaving school at 6:30 AM and arriving back at approximately 9:00 PM. Students should bring a sack lunch. Dinner is included in the cost of the trip.
The Springfield tour consists of the following sites:
- Lincoln’s Home
- Lincoln’s Tomb
- The Illinois State Capitol
- The Lincoln Presidential Museum
The 7th Grade End of Year field trip includes an architectural boat tour of Chicago followed by some fun at Navy Pier! Students in seventh grade will be going on this trip on one of the following three days:
- May 29th
- June 2nd
- June 3rd
The Architectural Boat Tour of Chicago will provide students with an insider’s glimpse into the buildings, architecture, and engineering that made Chicago famous as the birthplace of the skyscraper and home of modern American architecture. Nothing is more impressive than this world-renowned architecture as seen from the Chicago River on an architecture tour! The tours will be provided by Shoreline Sightseeing Company and the overall cost of the trip is $30.00. However, if students participated in the fundraiser, there is no cost for this exciting field trip.
The 8th Grade Graduation Ceremony will take place on June 4, 2015 at 6:30 PM in the gymnasium of Brookwood Junior High School. Prior to the graduation, we are planning a dinner dance at Glenwoodie Golf Club. The graduation dinner dance will be held on May 22, 2015 from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM. Payment for the dance will be due no later than May 8, 2015. Additional information regarding the graduation dinner dance and ceremony is included in this newsletter.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
